Awards and Honours - June 2015

Important  awards and Honors of the  June 2015 -

○Sanjay Subrahmanyam selected for Sangitha Kalanidhi award for the year 2015

 With this nomination, Subrahmanyan joined the league of stalwarts like Ariyakudi  Ramanuja Iyengar, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, who received the award before turning 50.

○Hindi writers Babusha Kohli, Upasana won 10th Navlekhan Award of Bharatiya  Jnanpith

 Kohli was awarded for poem Prem Gilhari Dil Akhrot and Upasana for her novel Ek Zindagi  Eke K Script Bhar.

○Sangeet Natak Akademi announced awardees for 2014 Akademi Awards and    fellowships

 The Akademi recognizes the contribution of outstanding musicians, dancers and theatre    artists by bestowing them the Fellowships and Awards on yearly basis

○ISRO presented with 2015 Space Pioneer Award for Mars Orbiter Mission

 The award was presented by National Space Society (NSS) of USA in recognition of    ISRO’s efforts in accomplishing Mars Orbiter Mission in its very first attempt.

○Parkash Singh Badal conferred with 2015 Sant Namdev National Award

 Badal was honoured with a citation, a prize amount of 101000 rupees and a memento by  the foundation.

○International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2015

 The 16th IIFA Awards were presented in the first week of June 2015 in Kuala Lumpur,  Malaysia.

○Eleven Indo-Canadians honoured with ICCC Annual Awards 2015

 The award was presented by Toronto Mayor John Tory and President of the Indo-Canada  Chambers of Commerce (ICCC) DP Jain at the annual gala award ceremony held at  Toronto.

○UK Author Ali Smith won 2015 Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction

 Baileys Prize was set up in 1996 with an aim to celebrate and promote international fiction  by women throughout the world. Earlier it was known as the Orange Prize.

○Suresh Kalmadi conferred with Asian Athletics Association President’s award

 Kalmadi is credited of introducing top events like Asian Grand Prix series, Asian Indoor  Championships and Asian All Star Meet and others during his tenure as the president of  AAA from 2000 to 2013.

○McCullum, Hesson honoured in Queen’s Birthday Honours‎ in New Zealand

 The head of the New Zealand World Cup organizing committee, Therese Walsh, was          made   a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

○Uttarakhand’s Health Minister SS Negi conferred with World No Tobacco Day Award   2015

  He was one of the six awardees from the WHO South-East Asia Region.
